Can you write effective copy for both the search engine and the visitor?
The search engines plead with us to write copy for the human, the customer. Having had great success writing copy in both styles, the answer lies in how your visitor is going to use your website.
It would also depend on which page (home or interior) that you are writing the copy. An interior page is definitely more like a landing page, whereas the Home page can be both.
The websites products and services can dictate which style too. If it is a real estate site for example - when the visitor gets there they just want to search. They've already done the preliminary by finding your website with a geo targeted search (city, county, development, etc.) and now they want to search for the property/listing. So, when they get to your site they are looking for, "Search Listings" and could care less about the copy. In fact they may not have even chosen you as the agent they want to use.
In the case of a product driven site, that is not a "local only" sales platform, the copy has to be written for the product/service and delicately integrated with the SEO Strategy.
I will be happy to write more on this later.
